Workshop Info

  • The workshop will be held from September 11 (Tuesday) to September 14 (Friday) of 2012.
  • All participants are requested to register using the registration form. The period for registration is from March 15 to July 15 of 2012. The registration fee before the deadline is 200€, with a reduced fee of 100€ for students. After the deadline the fee will be 250€, with a reduced fee of 125€ for students. Faculty and students of IST and members of CEAF are free to attend the Workshop at no charge but registration is still required.
  • To stimulate the participation of students and young researchers in the workshop, a small number of grants/scolarships will be made available. The grants include the conference fee, the abstracts book, accommodation and the conference dinner. Applications for grants must include curriculum vitae and can be sent to the following address , no later than June 30. If your application is accepted, then you must register in order to confirm your participation.
  • The duration of the talks will be of 50 min (including 5 min for discussion) for the invited speakers and 30 min (including 5 min for discussion) for the other talks
  • There is an agreement with Birkäuser Verlag to publish the Proceedings of WOAT 2012 (see .Proceedings).
  • There will be a Conference Dinner at 20:30 on Thursday, September 13, at Restaurante Casa do Leão. This restaurant is situated within the Castle's walls with a magnificent view over Lisbon. All participants attending the conference dinner will have free admittance to the Castle on the night of the dinner, from 19:30, with the confirmation ticket provided by the conference (see Social Events).
  • All conference rooms will be equipped with a computer connected to a data show, transparencies projector and a black/white board.
  • The Registration desk will be located on level 0 (entrance) of Complexo Interdisciplinar (see Travel) and will be available on Tuesday, September 11, from 08:30 till 11:10 and on Wednesday, September 12, from 14:00 till 16:10.
  • The main lecture room, Anf.Complexo (in full, Anfiteatro do Complexo Interdisciplinar), is in level 0 of Complexo Interdisciplinar. Some of the lectures will be held in lecture rooms 3.10 and 3.31 located at level +3 of the maths building (see map in Travel).
  • There is a snack bar right in the Complexo Interdisciplinar (building 26 in the map) which serves small-fast meals at lunch time and there is a canteen located on level 0 in the maths building (24 in the map). Further snack bars can be found in the buildings 1, 2, 20 (see map) and a restaurant called "Versailles" in the basement of building 5. On Saturday, most of these places are closed, but at least the snack bar in building 2 is open.
  • Participants with their own laptops can access the internet on IST- Campus using the wireless network (please see your welcome folder for configurations and usernames / passwords). There will, also, be a computer available at the registration desk which can be used by participants while the registration desk is open.
  • There will be an excursion to Óbidos on Friday, September 14, which will depart at 14:00 from near the main stairs of I.S.T. facing Alameda (Av. Manuel da Maia, see map). The price will be 16 Euros for passenger, payed at the registration desk on Tuesday (see Social Events).
  • There are two banks on the main building 1 "Pavilhão Central" of the Institute (see map) together with ATM machines (where you can withdraw cash).
  • The most efficient way to go to the city center is to take the underground train from Alameda to stations Rossio or Baixa-Chiado.
  • Taxis are available in the north-west corner of the campus, near Holiday Inn hotel, and in Praça de Londres, a shopping area about 300m from the north entrance of IST campus.
  • Near the reception desk you can find a board where urgent information for conference participants will be posted.
  • Due to unforeseeable circumstances, there will be some changes in the .schedule of the lectures. These changes may only affect the parallel talks (scheduled after 16:00) and will only affect the room and the time at which the lecture begins. The days in which every speaker presents his talk will remain unaltered.
