String Theory and Nonperturbative Gauge Theory

Jan de Boer

Abstract :
The first part will be mainly field-theoretical, and consist of a discussion of facts and lores about N=1 supersymmetric gauge theories in four dimensions. The second part will be about applications of string theory to N=1 theories, mainly using intersecting brane configurations. Various recent results about N=1 theories can be elegantly understood in this framework.
