(8/2) Please read sections 5.1, 5.2, 5.3 and 5.4 (with emphasis in the examples). Homework will be assigned weekly and it will not be routinely collected. However, I will randomly collect some just to check your work. Needless to say ... Homework solutions will be posted in ERES by Tuesday the week right after it is assigned. (Homework solution 1 is already online.) We have Quiz 1 this Wednesday. It will be taken during the lab (Social Science I, room 135, 2:30-4:00pm.) The quiz topic for this week is line integrals (sections 7.1 and 7.2) If someone cannot make it during the scheduled time, please contact me asap. In general, quizzes will be usually 10 to 15 minutes long. Solutions to the quizzes will be posted by the end of the week it was taken. Copies of my lecture notes will be put in ERES soon. (8/4) Please read section 5.5 (with emphasis in the examples). Remember that to consider a region of integration as type I or II depends ultimately on the function you are integrating (the integrand.) Bounded functions whose discontinuities form a set of zero measure are integrable. I have posted new homework problems (homework #2). I have decided to post my lecture notes by the end of each week. Check out ERES this Friday. (8/6) Please read sections 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4 (with emphasis in the examples). Our TA will hold a problem session on Tuesdays from 11:30am to 1:30pm. The location will be announced on Monday (Stay tuned.) For the midterm, review homework problems, problems from the textbook, exercises given in class, quiz #1 (the solution is posted already) and the review problems. (8/7) The review midterm has been posted. Check below. Quiz #2 has been rescheduled for Friday 13th in class. It will be on multiple integrals. Homework solution #2 and my lecture notes are in the library now. They should be available by Sunday. Check ERES frequently. (8/8) I have been told by the library that my lecture notes and the solutions for homework #2 will be available online Monday morning. In the meantime, you can go to the library and ask for a copy of the lecture notes and the solutions. (8/18) I have put on ERES the lecture notes corresponding to last week and last Monday. Also, I have posted the solutions to the midterm (see below) and to quiz #2. Quiz # 3 is on surface integrals. We will have a last quiz next week on Wednesday (during the lab). If you cannot make it, please contact me asap. A link to this week's lab is available below. There is a notebook file to be opened up with Mathematica (contact the TA for more information about this software) and a flash file to be opened up with a free macromedia flash player. The TA's office hours are shown above. Extra bonus problems are given during Ruben's problem session on Tuesdays (Kerr Hall 165, 11:30am-1:30pm), during his office hours and during the lab on Wednesdays. If you make a total of 6 points, 3 points will be add to your midterm. (8/20) Here are today's lecture notes (pdf, flash-swf). This direct link will work temporarily until it gets put on ERES next Monday or Tuesday. We will go over conservative fields and Gauss' theorem on Monday. We will have a review problem session on Wednesday (in addition to Ruben's problem session on Tuesday.) Please bring all your questions. Homework problems were assigned today: section 8.1, 3, 4, 7, 15, 16; section 8.2, 6, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15, 18; section 8.3, 1, 2, 3, 7, 20. (8/23) Here is a new set of homework problems: section 8.4, 1, 3, 7, 8. The solution to homework #3 will be available online later tonight or tomorrow morning on ERES. There is a review final set of problems (check below). We have our last quiz this Wednesday on Green's, Stokes' and Gauss' theorems. The lowest quiz score will be dropped. I will not have time to post the solutions for the last homework and the review final, but we can go over them on Wednesday and during office hours. (8/26) As promised, here is the solution for most part of homework #4 ( pdf , flash swf ). Keep on studying and see you tomorrow. (8/28) Your final grade is ready. Any reaction? Click below on scores. The solution to the final is also available (see below). It was a pleasure to have you as my students. Strive and do your best. Good luck in life! (8/30) I will be in my office today, Monday, from 2:00pm to 3:00pm if you want to pick up your exams. You can contact me by email to arrange an appointment to pick up your exam on Wednesday. |
